DONATING PLASMA

Who all can donate for plasma?

Even though you may be enthusiastic about donating Plasma/blood, you may not be eligible. This is determined through an initial screening process.

Eligibility of Donor

The following criteria should be met for potential donors:

  1. Age: > 18 Years
  2. Male or nulliparous female donor of weight > 55 Kg
  3. Prior diagnosis of Covid-19 documented by a laboratory test(RT-PCR) with symptomatic disease with at least fever and cough
  4.  Complete resolution of Symptoms at least 28 days prior to donation; or Complete resolution of symptoms at least 14 days prior to donation and two negative real time PCR test for COVID-19  from nasopharyngeal swab, collected 24 hour apart.

Is it safe to donate Plasma?

Blood and plasma have been used to treat many other conditions, and they’re usually very safe. The risk of contracting COVID-19 infection from receiving convalescent plasma therapy  is very low because the plasma donor has fully recovered from the infection.

What is Antibody Test?

An antibody test is a screening for antibodies in blood. It is also  called a serology test. The antibody test isn’t checking for the virus itself. Instead, it looks to see whether your immune system — your body’s defense against illness — has responded to the infection.

What’s the Difference Between a Coronavirus Test and an Antibody Test?

A coronavirus test, sometimes called a diagnostic test, looks for signs of active virus. It’s simpler and faster than an antibody test. But it tells you only if you have the virus in your body at the moment when you’re tested. An antibody test shows that you had the virus at some point in the past. It could be gone, or you could still be contagious.

How many days a recovered body can take to develop antibody

Antibodies develops in 14  to 28 days, and it will last till 2-3 months.

What is (RT-PCR) Test:

Reverse transcription PCR, or RT-PCR is a variation of PCR, or polymerase chain reaction.

IMPORTANCE OF VACCINATION

  • Saves lives: Vaccines are recommended for infants because their immune systems are not developed fully and so they are prone to many diseases. It can save your child’s life.
  • Saves money:Vaccine preventable diseases are more serious and the treatment, if possible will cost a lot. It is better to get vaccinated before and prevent contracting these diseases rather than going through the painful hospital process and bills later on.

  • Prevents dreadful diseases: Vaccines prevent dreadful diseases like Polio which can lead to deformities in the child. These diseases if not prevented can lead to paralysis, amputation of limbs, hospitalization and also death.
  • Vaccines are safe:All the vaccines today are safe for your child. It is a very rare case where a vaccine would have a side effect. The chances of protecting your child from a preventable disease are much higher than that of a side effect.
  • Eradicates diseases:Vaccinations protect not only you but also others. If we continue vaccination, there is a possibility that some of the diseases of today would no longer be seen in the future. These diseases would get eradicated. Taking a vaccination not only protects you from a certain disease but also protects the future population.
  • Vaccines help in the long run:When a baby is vaccinated, his/her immune system becomes tougher and the child does not get ill very easily. This also continues in the long run. If not vaccinated, these diseases would effect the child when he/she grows up and these diseases could have effects on the child’s further development.

  • Protects others as well:Young babies, who are not vaccinated, get diseases like measles which can spread to their siblings or to the older people in the family. This reoccurrence of diseases can lead to fatal consequences. Getting your infant vaccinated not only protects your family, but also helps prevent the spread of these diseases.

What are the benefits of getting vaccinated?

The COVID-19 vaccines produce protection against the disease, as a result of developing an immune response to the SARS-Cov-2 virus. Developing immunity through vaccination means there is a reduced risk of developing the illness and its consequences. This immunity helps you fight the virus if exposed. Getting vaccinated may also protect people around you, because if you are protected from getting infected and from disease, you are less likely to infect someone else. This is particularly important to protect people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19, such as healthcare providers, older or elderly adults, and people with other medical conditions.
